Which Clarifying Shampoo is Best For You?

Here is a list of my top 2 clarifying shampoos and a 3rd secret one that may surprise you!

Do you really need to clarify your hair? In a short answer, sometimes. In order to give my clients an amazing style that will last for days, I need to start with a perfectly clean canvas. That is where clarifying shampoo comes in. What is it you ask? It is a superhero of a shampoo, with no other purpose than to clean the hair. They are too strong for daily use. I recommend only using them once a week max. If you have fine hair, no more than once every 2 weeks. A good clarifying shampoo really goes in and takes all of the product residue, oils, and environmental toxins off of and out of your hair. They should be followed up with either a hair mask or a hydrating conditioner, (however, avoid thick oils like coconut oil immediately after). I'll have some more fun info for you at the end of this post. For now, lets get to the list!

#1 Budapest by Pulp Riot: Love, love, love

This product smells so delicious! Look, I'm all about natural things, but every once in a while I want a good smelling shampoo and this is definitely it! This is the one I use the most behind the chair, mainly because it is color safe and I can use it post color service when the hair is in need of some extra scrubbing power, but the grays need to stay covered. Another reason this has my no. 1 spot is that it is Gluten Free. Yes, gluten free products do matter to some of us ;) It is infused with quinoa and vitamin B5, sulfate free, vegan, and as I've already mentioned, color safe!

#2 Tea Tree Special by Paul Mitchell: Wonderful for the scalp

When the hair is in need of more than just a cleaning, I grab this guy. Not only will this clean the buildup off the hair strand, it will also go in and clean up dead skin stuck to the scalp. That's right, I'm talking dandruff. Tea tree has many medicinal properties and scalp irritation is one of them. This one packs a punch so strong that it can strip color so it really shouldn't be used within 48 hours after a color service unless recommended by a professional. Paul Mitchell products have one of the highest standards of product packaging on the market. They package there products according to pharmaceutical standards so you really can trust what they say on their bottles. That being said, this product is not gluten free so use at your own sensitivity levels. You can't beat the smell of this minty freshness!

#3 Surprise drug store product: Dawn Dish Soap, Original

Listen, I would much rather you buy a clarifying shampoo before using dawn dish soap. But if this is all you have access to at the moment and you're desperate for some clean hair, go for it! A few things to know, I can only vouch for the original dawn, the one with a cute little duck on it. I have not had anyone let me know if they have used any other types and what happened. This can strip color a little bit and should only be used very sparingly. It won't hurt the hair at all but it will severely dehydrate it if you don't use a good conditioner after. I often tell clients to wash their hair with this before they come in for fuse-in extensions. It gives the hair a great, clean base to start with. VERY IMPORTANT, rinse, rinse, rinse and just when you think you have all of it out, wring the hair out as dry as you can get it then rinse again for safety. Again, it won't hurt the hair but it does like to stay in it for a bit.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

This is not just an elaborate ploy by shampoo makers everywhere to get you to go through more shampoo. This is for a reason. The first shampoo just gets off the surface level goo like dirt, product, avocado and banana (if you're a toddler mom like me). The second shampoo really gets off the natural hair oils you have, then goes in and does what you bought the shampoo for. For example, the Olaplex product system rebuilds hair bonds. It starts working at the shampoo level. With theirs, the first shampoo cleans off the stuff so the second shampoo can go in and start the bond building process.

I have these as well as some other fun products for you linked in my Amazon storefront.

When you click through and purchase through my store front #commissionsearned

You cannot buy Pulp Riot's Budapest on Amazon yet. For now you'll just have to come visit me in my salon to pick one up! Where, conveniently for me, also commission is earned haha! But for real I love and use these 3 products weekly and sometimes daily.

Let me know which one you use and what you think! I always love feedback on hair products as hair is both my life and my livelihood :D

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

These are my posts about life, my babies, my marriage, my business, and a little bit of everything else. Some of this is to help you have the healthiest hair so you have the confidence to conquer anything. Some of this is so that when I am old (but never gray) I have a ton of fond adventure memories to look back on.

This is my life and these are my experiences.
